Under
Kansas law, the governor appoints judges to the Supreme
Court and the Court of Appeals without direct input from
the people. KJW recommends the following:
Reform
the judicial system to mandate voter election of all judges
of all Kansas courts by the people every four years.
Vote for
a candidate for governor who is conservative, respects the
right of the people to make law through elected
representatives, and strongly supports the
SEPARATION
OF POWERS
provisions
of the Kansas and U.S. constitutions.
Historically,
we have seen liberal Democrat and liberal Republican e.g.
(Gov. Bill Graves) governors appoint poorly qualified
judges and justices. However, the general rule is that the
Democrats tend to appoint judges who do not respect
SEPARATION
OF POWERS,
judges/justices who disregard the will of the people
through their elected representatives, and legislate from
the bench. The Republicans are divided into liberal and
conservative. The key is to vote for a
conservative Republican for governor because
he/she is most likely to appoint qualified judges. The
political process is a “team sport.”
